For some reason, the subject of legalizing prostitution in Cali came up during work. I am posting the highlights of the conversation. Note: names were changed to protect the identity of the people involved.

I then found a site that listed 10 reasons for not legalizing prostitution (10 Reasons for Not Legalizing Prostitution).

Is legalizing prostitution just another excuse for people to satisfy their sexual needs, but also stay within the legal boundaries? Imagine this: you're at a high school reunion and you get reacquainted with former classmates and everyone's asking each other's professsion. "I'm a lawyer. I'm a doctor. I'm a prostitute." Can you imagine the silence after that proclamation? JT also made a good point about why prostitution shouldn't be legalized, besides the fact that it is a social stigma. JT said that by legalizing prostitution the government is telling girls that it is okay for them to sell their bodies. Girls, especially the attractive ones, would see this as an easy route to the get-rich-quick scheme (assuming they became good at their profession). Then again, they wouldn't be much different than a porn star. The main difference would be that porn stars get camera time and prostitutes don't. And perhaps that prostitutes are more readily accessible than porn stars and perhaps cheaper too?

On another note, will this profession be considered a blue-collar or a white-collar profession? I'd think one would classify it as a blue-collar profession since, according to the definition of a blue-collar worker on Wikipedia, "Blue-collar is the United States term for what other industrialized countries refer to as the working class. A blue-collar worker is differentiated from white-collar and service employees, in that the blue-collar worker earns an hourly wage (as opposed to the white-collar salary) and performs manual labor (as opposed to the service-industry worker). Blue collar work may be skilled or unskilled, and may involve factory work, building and construction trades, law enforcement, mechanical work, maintenance or technical installations." They are performing manual labor by selling their bodies and plus they get paid on an hourly basis.

Conclusion: men are perverts. Why can't they keep it in their pants?? GOSH! Or maybe this way those males out there that can't get any can actually pay someone to give them what they physically can't get from their significant other. I am just generalizing here, but yes, not all men are perverts. It only takes one or two perverts to ruin it all for the others.
